THE SEMANTICS OF EDINBURGH “STRONG PROGRAMME” AND ITS WEAK POINTS

Kabanov А. V.                                           DOI: 10.31862/2218-8711-2021-4-9-18

Abstract.

The article attempts to analyze some crucial semantic aspects in philosophy of language of so-called Edinburgh “strong programme” of sociology of (scientific) knowledge. There has been remodeled and analyzed the connection between theory of meaning (reference) and the school’s main methodological principles: causality, symmetry, impartiality and reflexivity when analyzing the scholarly knowledge. It is shown that the finitist approach to meaning, peculiar to ‘late’ Ludwig Wittgenstein (we mean here his last works “Philosophical Investigations” and “On Certainty”), is also in the core of the Scottish school of thought. The article substantiates that philosophy of language (semantics) of the “strong programme” allows explaining many considerations of the school, that it is finitist semantics, unlike the traditional concepts, allows explaining various aspects of the language mechanisms and acquisition of it and finally the role of social factors in scholarly knowledge. The article also states that the adoption of the finitist semantics (as well as following Wittgenstein) may trigger some certain unfavorable implications.

Keywords

“strong programme”, concept extension, theory of meaning, reference, meaning finitism, descriptivism.

Abstract.

In the process of reforming the modern system of higher medical education, a tendency towards a reduction in humanitarian training and, as a consequence, a loss of educational function is revealed. The situation requires a philosophical understanding of the history of medical ethics, identification and preservation of the moral and ethical traditions of domestic and world medicine and medical education.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY AND EMOTIONAL BURNOUT OF UNIVERSITY FACULTY (LINGUISTICS STUDENTS OPINION SURVEY RESULTS)

Filyasova Yu. A.                                         DOI: 10.31862/2218-8711-2021-4-55-69

Abstract.

The emotional burnout (EB) arises as the result of a complex of factors and the excessive workload, being among them, deserves special attention. Professional activity of university faculty is multicomponent in its nature, and, except for classroom work, includes courses development, textbooks preparation, getting ready for lectures and seminars, monitoring and control of student autonomous work during the out-of-class time, developing assessment and test materials, conducting research and publication of scientific results, organizing educational events. According to the student opinion survey, EB adversely affects the efficiency of teachers’ work and can lead to their social isolation. The main factor of EB is related to their competence: the necessity to effectively organize in- and out-of-classroom student work, control over assignment completion with the help of various modern methods and technologies, interaction with a large number of students and employing an individual approach to each of them. Communicative and organizational factors are also important. Students believe that the main means for preventing the faculty burnout is their further professional development: enhancing their qualification and improving pedagogical excellence.

Obukhov A. S., Tomilina M. V.                    DOI: 10.31862/2218-8711-2021-4-79-91

Abstract.

The rapid development of educational technologies in the last two decades has affected all levels of education and has largely changed the approaches to learning, as well as its methods and forms. Educators all around the world are using digital technologies, apps and online platforms to find the most effective and productive ways to boost their educational practices. The markets respond appropriately to the increasing demand: the EdTech industry is growing at an extremely high rate, giving the consumer the opportunity to choose and search for the most suitable educational technologies for their purposes. The analysis and systematization of various ways of segmenting the market of educational technologies allowed us to identify the most typical of them. Thus, two types of segmentation provide higher importance for the EdTech market and the agents operating on it, both on the demand side and on the supply side: 1) by end user, 2) by product type. In the course of the study, it was found that EdTech manufacturers do not always seek for strictly sticking to their target audience but are ready to provide several groups of consumers with their products at once, initially adjusting the functionality to the needs and goals of each.

Abstract.

The article considers organizational and pedagogical issues of the resocialization of disabled people and senior citizens, who are released from detention facilities. Two major problems are identified that determine the success of corrective activities at the post-penitentiary stage: employment and accommodation. The legal instruments defining the order and procedure for preparing convicted persons with disabilities and senior citizens for independent life at large are being analyzed. The need to establish social protection institutions for ex-convicts to address labour adaptation and housing issues is demonstrated. A description of the legal framework is given on the example of a special group home, as well as the features of its activity is provided. It is stated that the functioning of special group homes for persons with disabilities and senior citizens who are released from detention facilities to resocialize these categories of citizens can be effective only when the pedagogical process is correctly organized. It implies creating a unified correctional and adaptation system, implementation of a specially developed psychological and pedagogical model of the reproduction of self-consciousness and the development of social consciousness of the individual in the facility, and the creation of a competent, modern concept of managing the process of resocialization, and the openness of the institution to the civil society.

Martynenko Ju. B.                              DOI: 10.10.31862/2218-8711-2021-4-250-262

Abstract

The article examines teaching anthroponyms to overseas students, taking into account the principles of the communicative-functional approach on the example of B. L. Pasternak’s correspondence. The production of letters causes difficulties for foreign students. One of the most common mistakes in writing is associated with students’ misuse of Russian personal names. Acquaintance of foreigners with the functioning of anthroponyms in the private correspondence of writers’ and poets’, analysis of personal names will help to eliminate these difficulties. Consideration of onyms in the communicative-active aspect, the implementation of language and speech tasks form the students’ ability to use writing practically, navigate in a speech situation and successfully implement their pragmatic attitudes. Work on the use of personal names in private correspondence contributes to the development of students’ sense of responsibility for the use of an anthroponym word, brings them to a higher level of proficiency in the epistolary genre and language in general.
